Abstract

[eng] In this study we examine the networks of invention of a French university of science, by using extremely detailed micro data on European patent inventors. We want to test whether the inventors'or-ganizational belonging and the nature of the exchanged knowledge influence the attributes of the outcome patents and more specifically, the geographic dispersion of their co-inventors. The results show that knowledge diffusion between the academia and the industry is geographically constrained, cohich is less the case for knowledge flows within the academic sphere, suggesting that geographic and organizational proximities can play substitute roles in knowledge transfers. Secondly, we find that the higher the complexity of the created knowledge, the closer the location of the innovative partners.
