Abstract

[eng] This paper proposes a framework to study markets as institutional constructions. It identifies three groups of issues concerning the organisation of markets. The first one pertains to the nature of the traded goods, the second one to the identity of market participants, and the last one to exchange processes them-selves. At each of these levels, one sees at work visible hands of various institutions, setting rules and norms and enforcing them, and partially shaping behaviours and social values.
