Abstract
[eng] The analysis shows a tight correspondence between the large number of equilibria under a static model of trade under scale economies and those of a linear model in which the productivity of one trading country grows relative to that of its partner. It is shown that productivity progress in one trading country will sometimes benefit, sometimes harm its trading partner, explaining the reasons and circumstances under which each possibility will occur. It is demonstrated that when a country acquires new industries, obtaining a substantial position as producer in that field, that will generally increase its national income. However, if too many industries are acquired from its trading partner both countries can be harmed.
