Abstract

[eng] During the past 15 years the management field has become an important area of formal standardisation (e.g. ISO 9000). Based on the empirical findings of the study of ISO/TC 176, it is concluded that the work of the standardisation in the field of management, has become somewhat self-reproductive. In particular, the type of participants seems to influence the standardisation work to a great extent. The participants of TC 176 mainly belong to a group which I have denoted supporting actors, and their action constitute an important driving force for the evolution of management standards. Typical for a supporting actor is his or her role as a guiding agent, functioning as a mediator between the general standards and local situations. Characteristic is also their role as producers of norms, which is decoupled to the consumption of the standards.
