Abstract

[fre] L'analyse technologique des échanges extérieurs montre que la complémentarité intersectorielle semble jouer un rôle plus important dans les performances extérieures structurelles que la simple polarisation sur des secteurs de haute technologie. L'existence d'une connexion entre les secteurs de la moyenne et ceux de la haute technologie (Allemagne, Japon) et entre les secteurs de la basse et ceux de la moyenne technologie (Italie) permet des excédents commerciaux structurels. En revanche, la polarisation de la spécialisation américaine, britannique et française, dans les secteurs d'ultra-haute technologie s'accompagne d'une dégradation de la compétitivité industrielle. [eng] A study of the link between technology and international trade shows that complementarity between sectors seems to play a more important role in long-term international competitiveness than specialisation concentration in high-technology. Connections between medium-level and high-level technology sectors (as in Germany and Japan) or between low-level and medium-level technology sectors (as in Italy) lead to trade surpluses. In contrat, the industrial competitivity of countries which have specialised in ultra-high technology (the U.S., Britain and France) has declined.
