Abstract
[eng] Abstract : In September 1828 an unlikely meeting took place between the « ultra » king Charles X and the citizens of Mulhouse, which had been a free state down to 1798 et which was even then reputed for its liberalism and even its republicanism. This paper shows that the interests of the two protagonists were converging : Charles X, who came to Mulhouse accompanied by the moderate prime minister Martignac whom he has been obliged to appoint as a result of recent elections, was trying to find a new support for his legitimacy by having himself acclaimed in that stronghold of modern economy. The City was trying to put an end to fifteen years of political conflicts in order to concentrate on industrial development. This paper analyses how, on that occasion, what was said and done and the colors displayed were used to publicize this New Alliance.
