Abstract
[eng] Abstract Nevers started producing tin glazed earthware at the end of the 16th century. The first painters were Italian and their work, reflects the Italian taste. But around mid- 17th century, receptivity to new influences from France, Flanders, Persia and China occurs. For a better understanding of the decoration developments in Nevers, it was necessary to gather a corpus of the production as thoroughly as possible ; 1874 pieces of tin glazed earthware have been listed. Vocabulary problems arrised during the writing of this essay and lead to the constitution of typologies and to the giving of precise names to each decorative onament. The works have been classified thematically in order to follow the transformation of each theme. Eleven families have been distinguished : wavy background, mythological subjects, biblical subjects, grotesques, « a compendario », sprinkling, sheperd subjects, hunting and fishing, scenes of 17th century life, European landscape, Persia, China. For each group, there is a definition of the decoration, a research of its iconographie roots and an account for its evolution. The rich and numerous creations of the Nevers workshops have been spread all over Europe by the craftsmen.
