Abstract

[eng] Nearly half of the population moved from one district to another at least once during a 20 years period - Certain individuals move more than others: those who moved from one region to another between 1968 and 1975 were five times more likely to do it again between 1975 anbd 1982 than someone who had not changed his residence in the first period. Civil Service executives moved a lot, and characteristically a great distance. . A large number of the migrations were between neighboring districts: thus, 50% of the moves during the 1962-1982 period did not exceed 30 km. 16% of the individuals registered as inhabitants of metropolitan France by both the 1962 and 1982 censuses, lived in different regions at the two dates. . The two tendencies that have been established by other data can also be found here: Ile de France was the region people left the most, and the South and The West were poles of attraction.
