Abstract
[eng] The heart of the associative network multi-members - In France, one and a half million people are members of at least four associations. This phenomenon of multi-membership explains certain paradoxes in the world of associations, for instance, the fact that, in each association executives generally seem to be less personally involved and to establish fewer relations than their blue collar counterparts. Multi-members, who belong to relatively few sports associations and senior citizens' clubs, play an essential role in the functioning of an associative network devoted to the attainment of a goal, be it political, religious, that of a parents' association or a humanitarian movement. This network is highly selective : even more so for multi-members than for single members, multi-members are primarily men, and a high percentage of them are college graduates, many of them teachers.
