Abstract
[eng] Six years have passed since the crisis of 1974 and it is now possible to contrast the trends of the pre-crisis period (1963-1973) with those of the post-crisis (1974-1979) in the hope of discovering the causes of the generalized slow-down of expansion. The method used is to explain successively supply, demand, and the foreign economic pressures. After 1974, the under-useofthe production capacity of the Nation was caused by a falling off of demand due to a stagflationary chain reaction. Indeed, inflation bred inflation, and encouraged restrictive economic policies rather than a revival of demand. Such uncertainty generated by a slow and uneven growth rate encouraged saving and discouraged investment, and thus contributed to the overall stagnation.
