Abstract

[eng] Vacations: not only in summer - During the 1977-1978 Winter season (from October 1, 1977, to April 30, 1978) nearly 11 million Frenchmen went on holidays Although the habit of taking winter holidays has developed spectacularly, above all in the families of business executives, the liberal professions, and office employees, it nevertheless remains essentially a supplement to summer vacations, as the majority of winter vacationers will also take a summer holiday, with the winter vacation being relatively short. Only one fourth of winter holidays are taken in order to participate in winter sports, chiefly by « white collar » workers. Winter holidays, in many cases, are essentially devoted to staying with family and friends — far more so than in the summer, and this is especially true in the households of workers. Lastly, sad to say, it is clear that the proposed staggering of departures for winter vacations is still far from being a reality.
