Abstract

[eng] School Leavers in the Educational System - Each year, some 800 000 students leave the French educational system. How many of them leave with a diploma? At what level did they leave the system? What is the place of technical instruction in the system? This article attempts to answer such questions by presenting, for the first time, a numerical evaluation of the « production » of the French school system. Giving but a general idea of the evaluation, 23 % of those leaving the system at the first stage of formation are considered to have acquired a general basica education (this is, at best, those who have obtained the CEP or the BEPC); 43 % are considered to have acquired a skilled education or an abridged technical education; 34% have followed studies to the level of the baccalaureate, at least. Technical education has grown in importance : well installed in the secondary educational levels, it remains an essential in the shortened second cycle of studies; in higher education, the number of students remains relatively small, but the progress is rapid.
