Arhitectura contemporana, intre tabula rasa si adaptarea existentului

Abstract

Singura constanta din evolutia arhtecturii este schimbarea. Cladirile nu ofera doar umbra si protectie fata de mediul extern, ci au o multitudine de functii de indeplinit si o serie de conditii la care sa se adapteze si la care sa raspunda. Arhitectura s-a transformat din functionala in inteligenta, odata cu noile cerinte ale timpului. De la originea sa, arhitectura s-a dezvoltat pentru a satisface nevoile oraselor si ale oamenilor sai. Cu toate acestea, poate mai mult decat oricand, in vietile complexe de astazi, avand in vedere conditiile fluctuante ale oraselor si mediile in schimbare, arhitectura trebuie sa isi insuseasca o multitudine de functiuni pe parcursul ciclului sau de viata. Astfel, este necesar ca mediul construit sa raspunda la toti parametrii dinamici si sa serveasca scopului existentei sale. Arhitectura moderna a fost in cea mai mare parte dominata de o ideologie esentiala - tabula rasa – inlocuirea vechiului cu noul. Albul, minimalismul si geometria veneau in detrimentul spatiilor complicate, intunecoase si incarcate. Aceasta viziune a condus ca in prezent sa ne aflam prinsi intr-un cerc nesfarsit de demolari si construiri, sub falsa impresie ca mai nou reprezinta implicit si mai bun. Astazi, in situatia in care aproape 40% din emisiile de carbon sunt legate de industria constructiilor [1], continuarea acestor cicluri nu este doar nesustenabila, ci iresponsabila in mod flagrant. Ar trebui ca inainte de a construi ceva nou sa ne punem problema daca nu am putea sa folosim, sa adaptam ceea ce avem deja la dispozitie. Confruntat cu pericolul iminent al calamitatii climatice, dar si cu alte situatii de criza neprevazute, exista un imperativ clar de a regandi modul in care ar trebui sa abordam arhitectura si sa contestam aceasta notiune ca fiecare proiect incepe neaparat cu o placa noua din beton.
