DIMENSÃO E RENDIBILlDADE: O CASO DAS EMPRESAS DA INDÚSTRIA TRANSFORMADORA PORTUGUESA

Abstract

Neste trabalho procurámos analisar a influência da dimensão da empresa na sua rendibilidade. Partindo de uma amostra de 301 empresas da indústria transformadora portuguesa e utilizando um modelo com dois factores procurou-se determinar se existem ou não diferenças significativas em termos de rendibilidade nas empresas pertencentes a diferentes classes de dimensão. A metodologia utilizada tem em conta os possíveis efeitos de interacção entre o factor dimensão e o sector de actividade, na rendibilidade da empresa. Os resultados obtidos revelam que: (i) o efeito conjunto entre a dimensão da empresa e o sector de actividade económica a que pertence - não afecta a sua rendibilidade; (ii) o factor dimensão, quando considerado isoladamente, não deve ser tomado como um factor determinante na melhoria da rendibilidade da empresa, e (iii) não foram encontradas diferenças significativas de rendibilidade entre os diversos sectores de actividade económica considerados neste estudo.
