Estimation of Nuptiality and its Analysis from the Census Data of Pakistan

Abstract

The Muslim Family Laws Ordinance promulgated by the Pakistan Government in March 1961. requires the registration of all Muslim marriages with the nominated persons. Such registration is made practica ble by the. introduction of the "Basic Democracy:' system of government on the local leveL B('fore the introduction of this system, there was no ~ll-embracing civil organization for such registration, though Muslim marriages were generaUy recorded by the 'eligious registrars such as Qazis, Mosque Jmams, etc. No private or government organization ever tried to collect information on marriages from which age at marriage could be estimated. Data under the new provision are not yet available; even if available, one cannot immediately measure their reliability.
