Abstract

Solidarity among the citizens of the European Union, economic and social development as well as cohesion are declared objectives stated in Amsterdam Treaty; their accomplishment should be assured by the states – members owing to implementing European regional policy financed by the Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund. The European Union does not simply play the part of a financer – it has its own vision regarding regional policy, and acts directly at a local and regional level, complementary to the national policies of the states – members in this field.
