Modelling the gender pay gap in the UK: 1998 to 2006

Abstract

Examines the reasons for the gender pay gap in the labour market by using data from ASHEThis article examines the reasons for the gender pay gap in the UK labour market by using data from the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE). Panel data for 1998 to 2006 is used to allow individuals to be tracked over time, using fixed-effect regression models. Regional, industrial, sectoral and other effects are investigated. The article breaks up the results using the Oaxaca method to identify gender pay differentials and the trend over the time period.
