Abstract

El objetivo del artículo es realizar una revisión de la temática de los indicadores compuestos, en especial lo relacionado con el proceso metodológico asociado a su construcción, detallando y discutiendo los diversos pasos vinculados a dicho proceso, utilizando como referencia la construcción del Índice de Potencial Competitivo Departamental (IPCD), indicador que mide el potencial competitivo de los Departamentos (regiones administrativas) en Uruguay, con la finalidad de mostrar un caso concreto y las opciones que se tomaron en su construcción, sin entrar en la explicación detallada de dicho indicador. La principal reflexión que debe destacarse es la necesidad de la transparencia en la construcción del índice. Esto es, la solidez del índice compuesto y su utilidad a futuro dependerá directamente de la calidad de la información y la justificación brindada sobre cada una de las decisiones que tome el investigador (o equipo de investigación) a cargo del armado del índice.
