Abstract

Creating new businesses is a key element in the process of economic development and growth because: there is a positive relationship between the development rate of a country or region and its rate of entrepreneurial activity; it contributes to the economic growth by generating employment and the development of innovations. The data provided by the National Institute of Statistics and Trade Register prefigures worrying trends on the creation rate of new enterprises in Romania concerning the number of suspensions, dissolutions, company cancellation from the Trade Register. The dynamics is fluctuating displaying positive trends. The major challenge in the current period is the stimulation of entrepreneurship and addressing obstacles to the development of entrepreneurship in Europe through simpler procedures for new businesses and the improvement of access to funding.
