New directions in federal laboratory partnerships with industry

Abstract

United States federal laboratories are facing substantial changes in their political, technical, and budgetary environments. Industrial partnering is widely seen as an important strategy for managing these changes and seeking new roles. This study examines new and interesting approaches to industrial partnering being used by selected federal laboratories. Interviews were conducted with senior staff and managers at eight federal laboratories belonging to three federal departments: Energy, Defense, and Commerce. New approaches were identified and analyzed, and the potential for their broader application was assessed. Copyright , Beech Tree Publishing.
