Funding university research in the Nordic countries

Abstract

Changes in funding patterns and funding mechanisms of university research in the Nordic countries during the last 15 years are examined. Even though Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden are often regarded as an entity, university funding takes different forms in the various countries and has also changed over time. The article investigates changes in the relative size of different sources of funding, and discusses changes in the mechanisms by which public funds are transferred to universities. Statistical time-series data are discussed in relation to differences and changes in public policy in each of the countries. Copyright , Beech Tree Publishing.
