Abstract

Modern retail business would be inconceivable without the deployment of information and communication technology. Except for significant growth in the application of various software for analysis and communication, one technology is particularly evident in the product labeling and collecting various data about products, primarily about their flows. This technology is radio frequency identification, or RFID for short. Although RFID clearly has great potential for optimization of logistics operations, the scope and speed of its implementation are still not up to scratch. In this paper we present the basics of RFID technology in logistics as part of the supply chain, citing the potential benefits and possible drawbacks of this technology, through the display of the current theoretical concepts and examples of implementation of RFID technology in the leading European and global retail practice. Through method of case study paper has shown the initial stage of implementation of RFID technology in the Croatian retail chain. Citing an implementation plan, the expected positive results and the difficulties that arise, goal of a paper is to give a bet ter insight into the real potential of RFID technology.
