Abstract

Super apps are a relatively new phenomenon in the context of ubiquitous digitalization of the economy. Although widely used mainly in Asia, their characteristics make them an attractive tool for expansion for leading technology companies worldwide as well. The purpose of the current paper is to identify parameters and sources of potential synergies when launching super apps, including through corporate consolidation via mergers and acquisitions. An important finding in this respect is that synergy is not limited only to traditional financial dimensions. Among the crucial factors in this regard are ensuring an increase in monthly active users (MAU) in line with considering customer acquisition costs (CAC), that in combination are affecting not only recurring revenue generation, but also important parameters of efficiency and profitability.
