Abstract

The accession of the Republic of Bulgaria to the European Union (EU) imposed significant changes in both the legislation basis and the functioning of the system of higher education in our country. The implemented legislation changes are aimed at harmonizing the standards of students’ training at the different EU member states and at ensuring a smooth transition towards a common European educational space up to year 2010. The concrete expression of the countries’ efforts in this regard was the signing of the Bolonia declaration in 199, into which the basic principles of achieving of this aim were approved and accepted. Bulgaria joint the Bolonia’s ideas as earlier as the appearance of the first wave of countries, which signed the declaration, and in the course of several years time it worked out and adopted legislation measures for improving both the structure and the methodology of training in the system of higher education. The University of Economics – Varna was one of the first higher education institutions in our country which implemented qualitative changes in response to the new challenges. One of these challenges was connected with the altering in the methodology of accessing the students’ knowledges and skill. For more than three years till now, some specially designed “rules” have been applied in this regard as a part of the overall System for sustaining and improving the quality of education. The main objective set in the present paper is: the experience in accessing the knowledges and skills of the students of the “Tourism” major at the University of Economics - Varna to be reviewed and analyzed on the example of a particular discipline and ideas and opportunitiec for improvement to be proposed.
