Le commerce des caravanes russes en Chine du XVIIe siècle à 17621

Abstract

Since the Treaty of Nertchinsk signed in 1689, which was followed by the Treaty of Kiakhta in 1728, Russia and China inaugurated their diplomatic and economic relations. Therefore, the caravans traveled from Moscow to Beijing across the Siberia and the Mongolian steppes for the trade of furs. They were sent on behalf of the Tsar who holds the monopoly on trade with China. This article aims to study the organisation and activities of the caravans in order to know the special nature of the Russia’s trade with China and to understand why it stopped in the eighteenth century.
