Les huguenots et l’élite négociante scandinave au XVIIIe siècle

Abstract

Si la représentation de l’émigré persécuté est certainement proche de la vérité pour de nombreux Réformés chassés de leurs villes et villages de Provence, de Languedoc, de Guyenne, de Saintonge..., l’étude des négociants huguenots installés en Scandinavie offre une autre image du Refuge. Les huguenots français qui se fixent à Stockholm ou à Copenhague ne sont pas toujours des réfugiés ni d’authentiques Français. Un certain nombre d’entre eux arrivent de pays où leurs familles peuvent être établies depuis fort longtemps, voire depuis plusieurs générations, et où ils ne sont nullement persécutés, à l’exemple de la Suisse ou des Provinces-Unies. S’ils partent, c’est pour créer ou développer une activité commerçante comme tous les autres négociants européens.
