Le roi et les philosophes : le séjour parisien de Christian VII de Danemark en 1768

Abstract

En 1768, le roi du Danemark Christian VII fait un voyage dans plusieurs pays européens notamment la France. Le souverain souffre de crises de folie et l’organisation de son voyage, souvent perturbé par son caractère imprévisible, provoque une grande inquiétude parmi ses proches. Pendant son séjour à Paris, au cours d’une audience privée, il rencontre les plus éminents philosophes. Il rend visite à l’Académie des Sciences où d’Alembert fait un discours remarqué sur les relations entre la philosophie et les princes. Le roi du Danemark se trouve impliqué malgré lui dans la querelle entre les philosophes et leurs détracteurs.
