A Cross-Country Comparison of Teacher Job Satisfaction

Abstract

In this paper we use Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) data for 2013 to tease out the factors that may affect teachers' job satisfaction across 33 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries and non-member countries. We find that females tend to be more satisfied with their jobs than are their male counterpart. Other factors that affect job satisfaction of teachers include whether or not a teacher is working fulltime, and has a permanent position. Education and teacher training also seem relevant factors in job satisfaction, as do private and public spending on education.
