Abstract

The understanding of Hatay province situation in terms of historical matters is the basic scope of this article. When we refer to the issue of minorities living in that region many factors are concerned that influence the approach of this issue - political, ethnic, and economic factors. We start from the consideration that the broadening the autonomy of this province was something inevitable in the context of Turkey’s compliance with international standards in terms of respecting the rights of minorities. The type of analysis is qualitative, being based on consulting reports, specialized articles and monographs that help us discern the special path of this province compared to other regions of Turkey. The utility of this approach in terms of historical matters, combined with the type of day-to-day analysis, lies in the ability to build an image as close to reality as possible, in which we can identify the main motivations of the local population to support expanding its autonomy, motivation conditioned by their historical course in the composition of Turkish state.
