Efficiency of Insurance Industry in ASEAN Abstract : Studi yang pemah dilakukan oleh PBB tahun 1970 mengenai kerjasama ekonomi . di ASEAN melaporkan bahwa terdapat terlalu banyak perusahaan kecil domestik dalam industri asuransi di wilayah ini. Topik ini pula, khususnya dalam general (non-life) insurance telah pula dijadikan bahan diskusi dalam kongres asuransi asia timur. Hal ini menunjukkan adanya keinginan yang kuat untuk memperbesar skala usaha di bidang perasuransian. Akan tetapi aturan-aturan yang dibuat oleh badan yang membawahi bidang asuransi dinegara-negara ASEAN selain mendorong tumbuhnya perusahaan asuransi yang besar juga memberikan proteksi terhadap kelangsungan hidup perusahaan asuransi kecil. Tulisan ini mendiskusikan perlunya meningkatkan skala perusahaan dan mencoba memperkirakan skala industry minimum yang efisien pada industry asuransi ASEAN serta usulan untuk meningkatkan skala tersebut. Pembahasan meliputi skala ekonomis untuk industry asuransi (life dan non life) di ASEAN dan tindakan-tindakan yang diambil oleh masing-masing pemerintahan di ASEAN di bidang perasuransian ini khususnya yang terkait dengan skala usaha
