Abstract

Indonesia, like her ASEAN neighbors, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, has become concerned in recent years with her increasing manpower problems. Each country in the second half of the 1960's faced a rapid rise in the number of young people seeking employment. This labor force bulge reflects the decline in the death rates with continuing high birth rates since the end of World War II. The resulting baby boom preceded by a small or hollow generation which accentuated this labor force bulge is explored in Section II.
