Three Measurements of Population Pressure in Eastern Java

Author

Abstract

It is well known that there is a "population problem" in Java and that this "problem" is one of the main ingredients of the many social, economic, and political troubles of Indonesia. To my knowledge, there has not yet been ah attempt to establish quantitative relationships of the Javanese population to some significant aspects of their social or economic life. The „case study" approach, under these circumstances, is useful in supplying some known form to a skeleton already dimly perceived.
