Devaluation In Indonesia Its Usefulness And Limitations

Abstract

Since the Second World War, devaluation has been one of the weapons most frequently used in Indonesia to overcome a constantly recurring disequilibrium in the external balance. Both outright and partial devaluation as well as the fluctuating rate have been employed. In addition, attempts have been made to regulate the external balance by measures aimed at controlling the level of imports, and at times these various measures have been used in combination. The history of Indonesia's foreign exchauge and trade regulations since 1949 provides a wide variety of methods to analyse.
