Capital social, crecimiento economico y politicas publicas

Abstract

Sólo a partir de esta década el concepto de capital social ha cobrado importancia dentro de los estudios económicos. Este artículo analiza el origen y evolución del concepto de capital social, establece su vinculación con el crecimiento económico de las naciones a través de dos vías fundamentalmente: la que crea círculos virtuosos (capital social productivo) que incrementa la violencia y la criminalidad con consecuencias nefastas en términos económicos y sociales. Finalmente se exponen algunas ideas en las que se destaca el capital social como una opción novedosa para las políticas públicas, en especial en países cuyo desarrollo depende cada vez más de factores institucionales y culturales más allá de los estrictamente económicos como parece ser el caso colombiano.
