Abstract

A közelmúltban Brüsszelben megtartott rendkívüli ülésén az Európai Tanács döntést hozott a monetáris unió megalapítóiról, határozott a tagországok nemzeti valutái árfolyamainak rögzítéséről, és döntött az európai központi bank első elnökének személyéről. Ezzel egy ellentmondásoktól egyáltalán nem mentes időszak ért véget, ami egyben azt is jelenti, hogy a Gazdasági és Monetáris Unió (EMU) létrejötte után egy sor nyitott kérdésre kell választ találni. Egyáltalán megérett-e az idő a tagországok gazdasági helyzete és az integráció elért foka alapján az euro 1999-es bevezetésére? Melyek azok a gazdasági problémák, amelyek veszélyeztethetik a sikeres EMU-startot? Vajon a politikai kompromisszum mennyire lesz gazdaságilag működőképes? A tagországok belgazdasági problémái miatt fenntartható-e a szigorú pénzügypolitika? teszi fel a kérdések sorát a tanulmány szerzője.
