Abstract

The construction of interval estimates for system reliability from component test data has presented statisticians and reliability engineers with several challenging problems. This article outlines the difficulties in making such estimates and presents a selection from the many diverse and sometimes ingenious statistical approaches that have been made. The paper summarizes some recent developments and indicates directions for some further research.
