Abstract

This paper demonstrates the applicability of convex and integer programming to the problem of determining optimum redundancy. A design method to maximize system reliability subject to several constraints on total cost, weight, volume, etc., is described and numerical examples are given to illustrate the procedure for the case of parallel redundancy.
