Abstract

A chemical production economic optimization system has been developed for maleic anhydride operations at Monsanto. The system is based on mathematical models that select the miminum cost operating strategy for a given production target with respect to operating parameters such as raw material feed rate, reactor air flow velocity, and pressure. Implementation of the system is generating estimated annual savings of one to three million dollars, dependent upon plant operating rates.
