Türk sigortacılık sektöründe rekabet: 2002-2004

Abstract

Avrupa Birliğine uyum sürecinin hızlanmasıyla birlikte diğer finans kurumları gibi Türk sigortacılık sektörünün rekabete açılması önemli bir konu haline gelmiş, birliğe tam entegrasyonun gerçekleşmesi durumunda sektörün geleceği konusundaki endişeler artmaya başlamıştır. AB sigortacılık sektörünün rekabetçi yapısına entegrasyonun Türk sigortacılık sektörüne etkilerinin tahmin edilebilmesi için sektörün sahip olduğu piyasa yapısının bilinmesi gerekmektedir. Rekabetin eksik olduğu bir piyasa yapısında etkin olmayan firmalar da hayatta kalma şansı yakalarken, rekabetin artmasıyla bu firmalar piyasadan çekilmek zorunda kalacaklardır. İşte bu çalışmada Türk sigortacılık sektörü piyasa yapısı 28 firmaya ait 2002-2004 dönemi için yıllık panel veriler kullanılarak Panzar ve Rosse (1987) modeli ile tahmin edilmiştir. Çalışmanın bulguları Türk sigortacılık sektörünün monopolcü bir yapıya sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Haliyle, çalışmanın sonuçları, sektörün rekabete açılması ile birlikte etkin olmayan firmaların sektörü terk etmek zorunda kalacakları yönünde endişelerini dile getiren yazarları destekler niteliktedir.
