Impact of Organisational Culture on Corporate Government Practices in State-Owned Enterprises

Abstract

The study sought to determine the current cultural elements in state-owned enterprises and establish their impact on state-owned corporate governance practices. It appeared that as the public sector continues to embrace new systems of corporate governance practices, the employees were developing a new set of culture values, norms, behavior patterns which appeared to impact the corporate governance systems. The state-owned enterprises continued to face corporate governance issues as evidenced by the increase of corporate governance scandals. The researcher world view was anchored and predicated within the positivism research philosophy. The study employed the quantitative research approach. The study employed the explanatory research design. The study population for the study was drawn from employees & management of 3 parastatals in Zimbabwe namely ZESA,ZINARA AND ZUPCO.It is recommended that the parastatals workforce require to go under change management to move away from the existing culture prevailing within the sector which is inhibiting the success of good corporate governance.
