Abstract

Real economic integration and rapid convergence of all European Union (EU) countries are both the most important medium-term objective and the most important instrument for curbing current centrifugal trends. This article aims to address the degree of integration of the EU countries from a macroeconomic perspective by analyzing some of the major indicators statically and dynamically. It concludes that integration is a long-term process that requires significant efforts from all the actors involved. Furthermore, the objective of the macroeconomic convergence process must be the welfare of all EU citizens.
