EU and the New Trade Regionalis

Abstract

In the present paper, we put forward a double objective: to identify the main determinants and guiding marks of the reconfiguring trade policy of the EU through the lens of the new common trade strategy and the current trade agreements negotiated by the European Commission. As underlined by the exemplified case studies, the Commission, together with the European Parliament, Council of the EU, European Economic and Social Committee and the other stakeholders have the mission to ascertain all the risks and opportunities, so that decisions could be taken only after a comprehensive analysis of pros and cons, beyond the pressures exerted by interest groups and without the abdication of the standards related to consumption, environment, health, public alimentation, social equity, protection of personal data or cultural diversity.
