Security Of Natural Gas Supply Of The European Union In The Context Of The Current Energy Crisis

Abstract

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has triggered fears about the security of natural gas supply on the European market and about the emergence of an energy disturbance that could compress the balances between supply and demand. This paper aims to analyse the EU's energy security in the current international and geoppolical context. So, in the first part of the paper, we examine the natural gas prices in Europe in 2022 and also the uncertainty created by Russia's behavior before the winter 2022-2023 season. In the second part, measures to improve the security of supply for the winter season are exposed and also the importance of solidarity and of the responsible behavior of citizens in ensuring security of supply. In the last part of the paper we examine the consequences of the decrease of Russia's natural gas deliveries to Europe to the lowest level of the last decade.
