Abstract

The adoption of the Farm to Fork Strategy represents a key pillar of the post-pandemic sustainable rural development in the EU. The aim of this Strategy is to implement new funding directions in the member States, so as to boost not only “green” farming practices but also sustainable development that will help mitigate climate change acceleration, while allowing better waste management and increase food security at EU level. Given these ambitious targets of the Farm to Fork Strategy, this article aims to highlight, on the basis of the latest European statistics available, the progress and obstacles registered by Member States on "green" agriculture, sustainable development and environmental protection in EU rural areas (following a set of indicators related to the share of climate and environmental spending in rural development funding). Based on this comparative analysis, we will highlight how the new objectives proposed by the Farm to Fork Strategy can lead to a greater"greening" of rural development in the Member States while highlighting some challenges related to food security in EU.
