Impact Of Covid-19 On The French Economy - Analysis Of Daily Proportion Of Food Products’ Out Of Stock On Retailer Websites

Abstract

This article outlines the main measures adopted by the French authorities to support the economy in response to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and highlights the most obvious vulnerabilities of the Hexagon economy. The research focuses on changes in the consumption behavior of the French population and analyzes the situation of stockouts in online grocery stores in two major product groups: fresh food and packaged food. For each product group, three types of food considered suggestive in this case were chosen: eggs, chicken and fresh vegetables for fresh foods group and pasta, rice and canned vegetables and fruits for packaged foods group. The aim of the research was to analyze the consumer behavior before and after the announcement of the state of emergency in France and to investigate the tendency of the population to buy more products than usual in such a situation.
