The Eu Prohibits The Unjustified And Misleading Differentiation Of Products On The Single Market

Abstract

On 2 April 2019, the European Parliament and the Council reached a provisional agreement on strengthening consumer protection rules and their more effective enforcement. The new rules have been adopted by the European Commission since mid-April 2018, with the “New Deal for Consumers” package designed to ensure that all European consumers will fully benefit from the rights conferred by Union’s law. The need for the package of proposals has been derived from the fact that, although the EU already has consumer protection rules, it has proved to be difficult in practice to ensure full compliance with these rules. Our article analyses the objectives and expected results of the "New Deal for Consumers" package, the sanctions for breaches of EU consumer protection legislation and the dual-quality products traded on the EU single market.
