Abstract

The world economy is going through the process of defining a new order. The importance of the new players from the Pacific Ocean (China, South Korea, India) is growing, and the reaction of major players to their tendency of seizing markets takes on various forms: from the concluding of new multilateral treaties and the updating the World Trade Organization WTO agreements, until imposing protectionist tariffs and threatening with retaliation in case of non-fulfillment of some honest conditions. This article seeks to analyze the context and effects of returning to protectionism, as well as to explore, on the basis of similar actions in the past, the force of collective action against practices considered incorrect.
