An Analysis Of The Energy Security Policies In France And Poland

Abstract

This article presents a qualitative analysis of the energy policies in France and Poland. The foundations of the research are the country reports prepared within the European Semester, as well as the assessments made by the International Energy Agency. The French energy sector is dominated by nuclear power and a high share of state ownership, therefore, market-based developments imply the need to prioritize the targets and identify new solutions to restructure France's energy policies. On the other hand, in Poland there is no update of the strategic perspectives on the structure of the energy mix, and in these conditions coal remains dominant, and although great progress has been made in increasing energy efficiency by reducing energy intensity in the last two decades, remains at a level above the average of the Member States. That is why Poland needs to step up its efforts to better integrate into the Energy Union.
