Abstract

In 2015 the financial markets were confronted with the intensifyingmonetary policy divergences across the main economies. After the signals launched over thepast quarters FED initiated a new monetary cycle in December, by increasing the referenceinterest rate from 0%-0.25% to 0.25%-0.50%. On the other hand, the central banks in theEuro Area, Japan and China continued to implement expansionary monetary policies, leadingto the continuity of the global currency war. At the same time, the adjustment of thecommodities prices, the macro-financial challenges in the emerging markets and the geopoliticaltensions influenced the financial markets last year. This paper presents the maindynamics in the financial economy during 2015.
