Abstract

Our article aims to reveal the major implications of the state aid policymodernization in the European Union, illustrating, through a quantitative analysis, based onthe most recent statistics of the European Commission (State Aid Scoreboard) the maintrends: the support for "horizontal objectives†(RDI, renewable energies, innovative SMEs,environmental protection) and the diminishing of state aid granted to the banking sector.Finally, our analysis will highlight the main changes brought by the state aid policy reform(through specific regulations adopted both before and especially after the internationaleconomic crisis) on the objectives and the types of state aid granted in Member States.
